Mrs. Tibaijuka and Mr. Lubbers sign Memorandum of Understanding in Geneva UN-HABITAT and UNHCR sign agreement to help bridge the gap between relief and development
Geneva, 17 December 2003: Mr. Ruud Lubbers, the High Commissioner of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), and the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, today signed an operational Memorandum of Understanding, to improve their collaboration in delivering durable shelter solutions for refugees and returnees.

Geneva, 15th December 2003: Local Authorities presented a new declaration to UN-Secretary General, Kofi Annan, aimed at enhancing the partnership between local governments and the United Nations during the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) last week.

  Tibaijuka celebrates with Kenya on its 40th Independence Anniversary
Nairobi, 12 December 2003 - Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, attended Kenya's celebrations to commemorate the country's 40 years of independence. The agency is active in Kenya, working with central and local government on projects to help prevent crime in its cities and improve the living conditions of the urban poor, among others. UN-HABITAT and UNEP are the only two UN agencies headquartered in Africa.
